The Carrington Event is the seventh album from Jon Thompson’s long-running project Oppressed by the Line. Named after the massive 1859 solar storm that disrupted global telegraph networks, the album imagines the consequences of a similar event striking today—power grids collapsing, communications failing, and entire infrastructures unraveling.

Across eight tracks, Thompson blends ambient soundscapes, shoegaze atmospherics, and cinematic tones into a hauntingly cohesive whole. The result is a science-fiction soundtrack for a film yet to exist.

For fans of Slowdive, The Album Leaf, Boards of Canada, Cliff Martinez, early M83, and Tangerine Dream, The Carrington Event is Thompson’s most expansive work to date.
